We try to canoe down the Current River before all the Summer vacationers
come out but it just didn't work out this year. We had a lot of rain
and associated flooding, so when the rains ended and the river levels receeded,
we made our move.
The river was still up and moving along nicely and most of the fallen trees
and debris had been cleared away.
We broke tradition and chose to take a raft out rather than canoes. It
was more stable and allowed us to hang together in one craft. It
takes some getting used to because you don't have the maneuverability of
a canoe but it afforded us more space and comfort.
The weather was hot with just a few puffs of cumulus in the sky, but we
were fortified with plenty of food and drink, hats, shades, and sunscreen
