The Columbia Senior All-Stars vs. St. Louis - August 25, 2002
A good number of over the hill
players of the "Beautiful Game " showed up on a gorgeous day to play the second game in series we hope will go on forever. This time we met in St. Charles county, just west of the City of St. Louis on a field provided by Mr. Tony Glavin, a prominent figure in St. Louis Soccer. Aside playing for pride, this time around, we also played for the coveted Missouri 40+ travel trophy. It's overwhelming size and weight alone may have been a factor in the 5 to 4 victory of the St. Louis team. The Columbia side didn't want to rent a trailer to take the trophy home with them, and were content to let St. Louis coast to a victory. The trophy stays in St. Louis until the next match.
A good time was had by all. We regret that some could not stay for the barbecue and refreshments after the game because of prior commitments. As always, it was a great time of fellowship, renewing old friendships and making new ones. The next match will take place in October in Columbia. We hope to see all of you then.
