Catching up - It's been awhile since I spent time on this
family web site. Social media has made these kind of web sites obsolete
but I hated to give it up entirely because it does represent a fair bit
of history (1999-present). There is a pretty good gap after 2017 but
it is my hope that I can start posting again.
Most of the pictures I will post today were taken with a cell phone. My Nikon has been gathering dust ever since my love passed away and I had difficulty finding a suitable successor to that beautiful smile that made me want to take all those pictures during the 51+ years we were together.
There are some more recent pictures that are taking up space on my hard drive and I hope to share some of those with you. Most notable...
January 12, 2018 - I updated my "The German Boy" bio to include the acquisition of my dog Draco
The 2017 holiday season was a forgettable one and I for one am glad to have it behind me. To me it represented the close of the worst year I've ever had to endure. I look forward to a better and brighter 2018.

Christmas 2011 - The extended family living in the St. Louis area is quite large and it takes a very brave soul with lots of living space at their disposal to host an event like this Christmas gathering. Arnie and Rebecca fit that bill. Take a look at some of the pictures...

July 10, 2011 - Most people my age take up checkers or shuffle board but I'm still playing "The Beautiful Game". I went to the Veterans Cup National Tournament along with a group of like minded individuals representing St. Louis and the State of Missouri. The over 55 team won the gold, silver for the over 50 and over 65 teams, but the over 60 group came back empty handed. and there is more of the team exploits Here's a picture of your's trulyin this Gallery.
June 30, 2011 - We take our first 2011 trip down the Current River with friends Steve and Barbara and can't figure out why we waited this long. It was a hot day but the river was cool. As always, this was a great get-away. Come take a look at some of the pictures.
May 30, 2011 - The Perlow Family turned out for the Memorial Day 5K Race here in University City. Over 2000 runners participated in this race. Take a look at the post race picture

December 19, 2010 - Arnie and Rebecca once again generously opened their home to the extended family for our annual Holiday gathering. Only a small percentage of all the pictures taken are posted here but it should give you some idea of what the evening was like. There was a lot of food and drink, presents for all the kids that came (and there were lots of them) and we also continued the tradition of the ornament exchange for the adults. It really was a lot of fun!
October 29-31, 2010 - Two of our lovely granddaughters came to visit us for the weekend. The weather cooperated beautifully and we had a great time together. Grandma cooked the favorites, Allison and Grandpa spent time in the yard, Grandpa and Summer toured the U City Loop, and Grandma took both Summer and Allison to the fall festival at Destiny Church. Here is just a sampling of the many pictures we took over the weekend.
September 17, 2010 - We take yet another float trip down the Current River with Steve and Barbara. The weather was perfect, we only saw 4 other people on the river the whole day, and 5 inches of rain 2 days prior made the river very fast. This time we floated the stretch from Akers Ferry to Pulltite, a good choice. Cherie and Barbara took most of the pictures.
August 10, 2010 - Cousins Allison, McKennah, Eva and little Jadyn got together poolside to escape the extremely hot weather and to have some good clean fun under the supervision of their Great Aunts Shirley and Cherie (aka Allison's Grandma). The pool was empty save for the lifeguard and a great time was had by all. A picnic lunch was served and afterwards they went to Shirley's home for some more adventures and an overnight slumber party. Below are only a few of the many pictures taken at the event. Perhaps we can squeeze in one more of these before the start of school. Take a look at some of the pictures...
July 18-22, 2010 - Charlie came to visit us here in Saint Louis for the better part of a very hot and humid week. We engaged in the usual activities that make our little Charlie happy. It included clothes shopping with Grandma, a pool and slumber party with her cousins, activities in the park, games at the house, swinging in the yard, riding in the back of the truck (don't tell her Mom) and a terrific outing to the City Museum. Unfortunately, I haven't received any pictures from the pool party as yet. Take a look at what I have thus far...
July 15-16, 2010 - We embark on yet another trip to the beautiful Current River in South Central Missouri. This time we decided to spend the night at Montauk State Park and set out on the river the next day. We stayed in a cabin in the park, toured the old mill, the trout hatchery and played cards in our rather primitive surroundings. We had no TV and no phone. The cell phones won't work here! Perfect for a getaway! We set out fairly early and stayed on the river for approximately 6 hours. It wasn't all paddling however. There were plenty of rest stops and swimming opportunities. The temperatures climbed into the lower 90s but the river was cold and refreshing. We love the beauty and serenity of this river and planned another trip in September. Take a look at some of the pictures...
May 9th, 2010 - It was a beautiful, albeit cool day and we celebrated Motherhood with a dinner at Arnies and Rebecca's home in Chesterfield. He got the job through the University of Missouri - St. Louis and plans to go back to UMSL to complete his Master's Degree after his Korea tour. Things can change however! Stay tuned...
December 23, 2009 - Arno and Rebecca hosted the annual Family gathering once again this year. I counted at least 40 people but there could have been more. It was good to see everybody, but our two newcomers, Jace and Kael are the ones that got all the attention and you'll see more pictures of them than anyone else. >>Go to the Slideshow<<
November 26, 2009, Thanksgiving Day - We truly have much to be thankful for! We celebrate the day with a gathering of family at Arnie's and Rebecca's home in Chesterfield. A fun group of people, terrific food and more... Take a look at the pictures...
October 25-26, 2009 - Cherie, Jennifer and Arno Sr. made the trip to Houston, Tx to commemorate our good friend Judy, who passed away on September 18, 2009. Her husband Vern arranged for a beautiful Memorial Service at Mary Queen Catholic Church in Friendswood, Tx. Aside from paying tribute to Judy, we also had the opportunity to meet up with other friends that came to celebrate her life. We also managed a short visit to Sculpture Park and the Contemporary Art Museum in the city. We got together with some of our friends that evening for dinner (Tex-Mex of course) and again the next day for the service and fellowship afterwards. Unfortunately we had to return back home later that afternoon. Take a look at some of the pictures...
September 11, 2009 - It's becoming a tradition that we cruise the beautiful Current River with friends Steve and Barbara at least once during the year. We decided to go after after the Labor Day weekend to avoid crowds. We arrived at the canoe rental place at 10:30 and were on the river by 11:00 AM for our 8 mile journey. The weather was great, there was lots of good food and drink, no spills, and we only saw 4 other canoes the whole time we were on the river. Enjoy the slideshow, and if you can, make this trip yourself.
August 17, 2009 - It was a "Ladies Only" trip for Jennifer and Charlie this time. They visit with their uncle and cousins in Chesterfield and spent a day with us at the zoo. August 6-7, 2009 - Our grandaughter Allison spent a couple of days hanging out with us. Activities included reading, baking with Grandma, swinging with Chris and Grandpa, a visit to the Zoo and the Science Center with Chris, and riding the lawn tractor around the yard. We also took some walks and a little TV watching. I posted a few pictures...
June 10, 2009 - Cherie suffered a mild stroke 5 days ago. She spent a day in the Emergency Room and two more in the hospital before being discharged into my care. Her otherwise good health, physical condition, recognition of the symptoms and acting upon it in a timely fashion helped to minimize the effects of the stroke. It effected mainly her left arm which is already doing a lot better. She is expected to recover 100% and is taking steps to prevent another occurrence.
April 25, 2009 - It really is true! Our little Allison is 9 years old today. She celebrated the day with friends (both Birthday and Slumber Parties), and with her family. Check out the Slideshow.

Take a look at some of the many pictures we took.
March 25, 2009 - Our sweet granddaughter Charlie spent part of her Spring Break with us. We did all the usual stuff that Charlie likes to do. Take a look at just a handful of the pictures.
February 16, 2009 - It's Presidents Day and the kids had a day off from school, so Jennifer arranged to have Charlie's Birthday party a few day early. Grandma and Grandpa picked up Summer and Allison in Chesterfield and made the drive to Columbia. The party was at the "Flipz" Gymnastics Center and it was the perfect environment for the kids. The raced, tumbled, bounced and climbed, yet nobody got hurt and all had a good time. Here are just some of the pictures from the glorious event.
February 6, 2009 - I received a request from my young friend Paul to give an account of some of my life's highlights for a project he was doing at school. He was to interview someone in his circle of family and friends that has led "an interesting and exciting life". I wouldn't have thought that I qualified but after jotting down some notes, memories of my childhood came flooding back and I eventually added to the story. It is still a work in progress, but what I have put together thus far is posted on the Perlow Family web site. If you have a little time, look at my story.
December 25, 2008 - Merry Christmas! Guess what? Yup, I've posted yet more 2008 Christmas pictures. I think we are going for some sort of record here.
December 21, 2008 - We celebrate Christmas with a big party at Arnies and Rebecca's home in Chesterfield. The family keeps growing and growing and theirs was the only venue large enough to accomodate such a gathering. As always, they were the most gracious of hosts and everyone there had a terrific time.

You will also want to look at some recent photographs of Charlie, Summer and Allison.
October 31, 2008 - It's Halloween again and I am following the tradition of posting pictures of the kids (and some adults that refuse to grow up). Take a look at our Europe 2008 travel page for text and pictures from various stops in the four countries we visited.
August 7, 2008 - Colleagues from my former office invited me to join them on a canoe trip down the Huzzah River. It's become an annual tradition. Like in previous years, this was a fun excursion, with lots of sun, excitement, food, beer, and laughter. Take a look at some of the pictures.

April 7, 2008 - Our friends Marla and Gary came for a visit to Saint Louis. It snowed in Nebraska the day they left, and it rained like crazy here. We still managed to have a good visit that included some great food, long walks, dinner with yet more friends, and an obligatory visit to the Arch.
March 28-April 1, 2008 - We had to get away from the horrible St. Louis weather for a few days, so we packed our bags and headed for beautiful Sedona, Arizona. View these pictures at your own risk! You will be tempted to put the house on the market and head west.

February 19, 2008 - Guess who's 6 years old today? That's right, it's our little Charlie. Happy Birthday Charlie!
Christmas Activities - 2007 - As the family circle grows larger and larger, we are forced to split up some of the activities. This year the largest event took place on the 23rd at the Stern residence and was hosted by Jim and Jessica. We had a marvelous Christmas Day dinner at Arnies in Chesterfield, and because of weather and other obligations, the Columbia Clan had their own Christmas Day activities. Here is just a sampling of the many pictures that were taken.

Dec 1, 2006 - It all started with a lot of rain, then turned to freezing rain, then sleet and finally snow. We got nearly two inches of ice accumulation here in University City topped with a couple more inches of sleet and snow. The storm left over 500,000 people without power here in the St. Louis area. October 19, 2006 - Cherie and I had an invitation to join my Brother-in-Law Mike in Southern California for a Anniversary/Birthday celebration. It would have been his and my sister's 51st anniversary and his 39th+++ birthday. No matter the reason, it never takes too much arm twisting to visit SoCal at this time of the year. The weather did not disappoint, nor did the pleasant company. We met Mike's friend Anita, and had the pleasure of hanging out with George, Brian, Lorie, Jeany and many of the friends that came to the party. Unfortunately, Mike's brother Joe was not able to make the trip.

July 2, 2006 - Cherie, Arnie and I take a very short trip to Chicago to attend a Pfaff Family gathering. Not all were able to come, but most of the Chicagoans and some out-of-towners were able to attend. The Slideshow pictures show activities ranging from a gathering at the hotel, to brunch at Bruce and Lisa's home, to dinner at the restaurant banquet were we all gathered for some good food and fellowship. I have to apologize for the quality of some of the pictures. A combination of dim lighting, fast moving subjects and an inept photographer all contributed. Some of them did turn out OK though and if you are interested in obtaining the original (higher resolution) image, please contact me, and I will send it to you. The slideshow images were all resized for posting. If you have some digital images that you would like to include, send them to me.
May - June, 2006 - Cherie took a trip to Paris with her sisters, Carla and Shirley and her niece,
Ariel. I was concerned that this trip might deepen the rift in French/US relationships, but it turned out OK I guess.
Our embassy is still open, and they all made it back without problems. Rather than staying in a hotel, Cherie rented an
apartment in the 11th Arrondisment in Paris. It turned out to be a great find, convenient to mass transportation and
within easy walking distance of shops and Cafes. Between the four of them, they took several hundred picture.
1. Here are just some of Cherie pictures in a slideshow...
2. Ariels scrapbook (produced by her sister Jessica)...

July 31, 2004 - I have participated in the annual Missouri State Show Me Games ever since the games started back in the 80s. This year was no exception. Along with 12 other hearty souls, we played in the "over 50" Governor's Cup Soccer competition. This year, like last year, we brought home the silver medal. Maybe we'll get the GOLD in 2005.

September 2003 - We make another trip to New Orleans for some sights, food and fun.
July 31, 2003 - We receive a couple of German visitors. The timing wasn't the best because the boys arrived the same day my Mother-in-law passed away, but the trip had been planned for some time and we made the best of it. Take a look at some of the pictures from the visit.
July 31, 2003 - My Mother-in-Law, Alleen Stehlick passed away from an acute case of pulmonary fibrosis early Thursday morning July 31, 2003. She is survived by 6 children, 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was 88 years old. More information on her Memorial Page. This sweet lady will be missed by relatives and friends alike.
July 6, 2003 - We brave the heat and humidity to get together with friends and family to celebrate the 4th of July weekend and the completion of our deck. Come and look at some of the pictures.

Christmas 2002 - The weatherman brought us "White Christmas". It didn't hamper our activities though. There were visits and dinners and walks in the snow. For more info, visit our Christmas Page.
December 2002 - We make a long weekend visit to my sister and brother-in-law in California. It was a good time to leave the frozen tundra of the Midwest and enjoy the California sunshine and the hospitality of our hosts. Thank you Mike, Christine and Tiger for a wonderful time!
Thanksgiving Day - We celebrated Thanksgiving at Arnie's with a terrific meal and fellowship. All three of the granddaughters were together for the occasion presenting lots of photo opportunities.
October 31, 2002 - We're celebrating Arnie's Birthday and the kids are enjoying the Halloween activities. The leaves are turning and there's a definite chill in the air. It's fall in Missouri.
September 9, 2002 - A friend and colleague visits for the weekend. Our friend Marla (also employed by the Weather Service at the Hastings, Nebraska Office) stayed with us for a few days. We used the opportunity to get together with other friends for a very enjoyable weekend. Activities included long walks and talks, a barbecue, bicycle tour, a tour of the city, and a lovely dinner with our neighbor and friends from the airline industry.
September 1, 2002 - The summer heat is slowly fading and we're anticipating the cooler nights and moderately warm days of the fall here in the St. Louis area. In light of the plight of the airline industry, Cherie has given up on waiting for a recall and has gotten a realtors license and a position with a local broker. Christopher has moved to Columbia to go back to school full time, and Jennifer is glad to have some family so close. We spend a lot of time and energy working on the house and yard now that our travel has been curtailed. Everyone is in good health and our kids and grandchildren provide us with much joy and entertainment. The economy sucks, but life is good. I'm going to share some recent pictures of the girls. They are all growing up very fast.
August 25, 2002 - Another friendly against the Columbia Team. This time we met in St. Louis.
June 29, 2002 - Waiting for the World Cup final this weekend. Hate to see it coming to an end. Until the next World Cup game in 2006, I'll have a beautiful crop of granddaughters I can watch growing up. Here are a couple of pictures you don't want to miss. These are just a few days old. One of Charlotte strutting her stuff, and one of Allison and Summer. Allison has to have wear a cast on her leg for a couple of weeks after taking a fall. Her sister doesn't look to sympathetic, figuring this is just another one of Allison's schemes to draw attention.
June 23, 2002 - A group of soccer fanatics make the trip from St. Louis to Columbia to play a "friendly" against the Columbia Senior "All Stars". The day was warm and so was the hospitality of our Columbia friends.
June 17, 2002 - The family gathers at Arnie's home for a Father's Day celebration. Jenn and Chris drove in from Columbia, and Leslie, Christopher, and all the grandkids were there to make this a special day for all the dads. We ate, fellowshipped, and watched World Cup Soccer together (A family obsession). I'm sorry that I couldn't post any more pictures. My camera lost battery power and I was without spares. You'll have to look back in here for recent pictures of the ladies.
May 26, 2002 - We celebrate Memorial Day with a barbecue at our home in University City. All the kids and grandkids were present, and the weatherman gave us a beautiful day to work with.
May 3, 2002 - A day off during the week. The sun is shining bright, the temperatures are in the 60s. What to do? Take Allison to the zoo of course. Leslie was OK with the idea and we went and picked Allison up in the morning and returned her in the afternoon. The zoo turned out to be a lot of fun for all of us. Come take the tour with us.
May 1, 2002 - In order to make room for more pictures for the grandkids, I had to go to another host and took on a new domain name. From now on the Perlows are at their new cyber home at www.perlows.com But then, you already knew this since you're here looking at this.
April 25, 2002 - We celebrate Allison's second Birthday with a gathering of family and friends. No longer the baby. How time flies. Good thing we have another little one following right behind her. Let's just keep it going.
April 2002 - We convinced Jim and Tina to take a weekend excursion to New Orleans with us. We managed to get a couple of rooms at the edge of the French Quarter. It's a busy season and we were glad to get something close and at a reasonable rate. It wasn't a 5 star, but it served it's purpose. We spent many hours and covered many miles walking through and exploring the French Quarter and Garden District. As always, it was fun company and a great time.
Easter, 2002 - Jim invited everyone over to his house for an Easter meal and family fellowship. Both his side of the family and Tina's side of the family showed up in force, and a head count revealed over 50 visitors to his home that day. Jennifer and Chris drove in from Columbia with the baby. Cherie's sister Joan and her family drove up from North Carolina to visit. Nice to see everyone there.
March 4, 2002 - Nothing newsworthy to report from the homestead, but I did post a few more pictures of baby Charlotte. It's very cold here right now, but spring is right around the corner. We're waiting for the renewal that spring brings and hopeful news from the airlines recalling the furloughed flight attendants. Cherie is getting cabin fever.
February 19, 2002 - Charlotte Olivia is born! Jennifer and Chris collaborated to produce a truly sweet and beautiful little baby girl. Actually, Jennifer did most of the work, with some excellent results. The baby was born at 7:58 AM and weighed in at 8 pounds and 2 ounces. She stretched out at a full 20 and 3/4 inches. She, Mom and every one else is doing fine. Come and look at some of the first pictures.
January 2002 - Jennifer, Chris, and Clayton are eagerly awaiting the arrival of baby Charlotte. See what they've done to the baby's room.
January 6 2002 - A baby shower for Jennifer here at our home in St. Louis. Friends and Family braved the season's first snowfall and came to celebrate the occasion. It was "Ladies Only" and they captured the day with lots of pictures. We will share a portion of them with you. Jennifer received lots of love and gifts, and barely had room in her vehicle to haul everything back to Columbia.
Christmas 2001 - We actually stretched our holiday activities into 3 separate gatherings. On the 23rd, we all met at Arnie's for a gift exchange and a very nice dinner since Jenn and family couldn't be here on Christmas day. Christmas Eve was spent at Carla's home where most of Cherie's family met after an evening church service. Christmas day was spent here where yet more gifts were exchanged, and we ate yet another big dinner. Time to start our exercise regimen again.
- Progress on the new (old) home... From the yard to the attic
space, slowly but surely we're making some progress. The yard lost
a lot of shrubs and trees and gained a lawn.
Cherie was furloughed as a result of the 9/11 tragedy. She misses flying, but is making herself useful at home and spending lots of time with her Mom and our grandchildren.
July 2001 - From the burbs to the city. We're moving! The idea was to scale down and get away from the homogeneous sea of single family homes here in the suburb. We found an old home (90+) in the city that we really like. Forget about scaling down though. The home is bigger and the lot is 3 times as big. The move is scheduled for August.
July 2001 - To help Jennifer celebrate her 30th Birthday, we take a little trip to Las Vegas with her and Chris. They came into St. Louis for a BBQ on Saturday and we flew out early Sunday. The immediate family was on hand to celebrate the occasion, and Jenn and Chris had some exciting news to share with us all: "Jennifer is expecting a baby!" The due date is in February 2002, so be on the lookout for lots of baby pictures.
May 2001 - Cherie picks up a trip to London, England, and Arno tags along. It's only for the weekend and way too short, but still a wonderful opportunity. Arno travels first class while Cherie toils. We forego sleep to tour the Brighton Beach area (where we stayed), and hang out with the crew (all of them first class).
April 2001 - We just returned from a quick weekend trip to Las Vegas and turned right around and made a get-away to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. Like Puerto Rico, it was tropical and we spent most of our time just loafing on the beach. Our cat threatened to go on strike if we left him alone again any time soon, so I guess we'll wait at least a couple of weeks before heading out again.
February 2001 - It's nice to have someone in the family in the airline industry. We manage a 3.5 day getaway to San Juan Puerto Rico. The weather in St. Louis was horrible when we left, and when we stepped off the plane in San Juan we were greeted by sunny skies and temperatures in the 80's. This was our first trip to Puerto Rico and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Beautiful scenery and very friendly people. We'll be back.
January 2001 - Trying to escape a very cold Missouri winter, we head to sunny California for 3 days to visit our friends Karly and Garry in Riverside. We made some very enjoyable excursions to the Mission at San Juan Capistrano, and Medieval Times in Buena Park. We also spent a day in Tijuana, Mexico. Cherie's Mom made the trip with us, but stayed with her sister in Chino.
Christmas 2000 - The kids visited us on December 23rd for an early Christmas dinner and gift exchange. Both Cherie and I are working over the holidays, and this was the only way we could all be together. Even though we celebrated a bit early, it was a wonderful time.
September 2000 - We celebrate Cherie's Birthday with a fantastic balloon ride over some beautiful countryside in east central Missouri. The next day we had a great dinner complete with kids and grandkids at Arnie's and Leslie's.
August 2000 - We decide on a last minute trip to New Orleans. I think we've forgotten our last visit to the "Crescent City" in the heat of summer and have to learn our lesson all over again. We stayed in the French Quarter and did all the tourist type things, including eating way too much. In Rome you do as the Romans do...
May 20, 2000 - Chris and Jennifer are married at the Jewel Box in Forest Park, St. Louis, Mo. It was a great day and a joyous occasion for all. You can look at some of the digital images of the wedding or peruse the original webpage the happy couple put together.
April 25, 2000 - Another granddaughter!!! Allison Reed Perlow was born at 10:27 CDT at St. Johns Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She weighed in at 7 lbs 12 oz at 20 inches. Mother and daughter are both doing fine. Her sister Summer thinks she's about the best little sister anyone could ask for. This baby is mighty cute! See for yourself.
January 2000 - We made our annual pilgrimage to Las Vegas. We met up with the Camenga Family and thoroughly enjoyed our time away from the cold Midwest winter and time with our friends. We stayed at the Jockey Club Condos (compliments of the Camenga Family) with a great view overlooking the "Strip" and the Paris and Bellagio compounds. We're probably not the conventional Vegas visitors, even though we did gamble a little, but we spent most of our time sightseeing, walking, and enjoying some of Vegas' extraordinary restaurants.
Happy New Year to you all. Cherie was on "reserve" over New Years Eve, so we had no choice but to stay at home. We spent a little time on-line chatting with our friends in California and Texas, and then toasted in the year 2000 with a nice bottle of champagne. I trust that the coming year, and any part of the next century that you may be around for, are very good to you.
Christmas 1999 - Cherie and I both got stuck working over the Christmas holidays, so we celebrated with the kids (and Grandkid) the weekend before. We enjoyed a very nice Christmas dinner and some pleasant fellowship.
November 1999 We took a trip to Southern California to visit our friends Garry and Karlyn in Riverside, Ca. From there we took a little side trip to Tijuana, Mexico to do some shopping. This was the first time we tested Cherie's travel privileges, and even though that meant flying standby, it worked out just fine. To add to the adventure, we took Cherie's mother along for the trip. She took the opportunity to visit her sister in Chino, Ca. She had a wonderful time and proved to be a great travel companion.
July 1999 - A group of family members and friends gather at Beaver Lake, Arkansas for a week of fun and sun. Temperatures soared into 3 digit readings at times, but we still managed to have a great time.
